LIRN - An online library providing access to reference and research resources PDF  | Print |

Online Library

I am pleased to announce that VIU has subscribed to two online libraries – LIRN and e.brary.  These subscriptions increase student and faculty access to reference and research resources tenfold.  Our subscription to LIRN is now active while our subscription to e.brary starts on September 1.  LIRN and e.brary are accessible from any computer with an Internet connection

The LIRN electronic library provides participating colleges and universities with a wide range of research and reference resources. With the subscription, students and faculty have access to databases in business, computer science, and many other disciplines.  These databases offer, among other materials, the full-text of millions of periodical articles from thousands of peer reviewed journals.

You can access LIRN either directly at http://www.lirn.net/ or through a link on the VIU Library webpage (http://library.viu.edu/).  Faculty members have already received their LIRN passwords via e-mail and students will be receiving their passwords over the next several days.

E.brary’s Academic Complete database is designed to meet the reference and research needs of students up to the Master’s level.  It will provide students and faculty with access to more that 120,000 items including e-books, maps, journals, and reports. The database includes the full-texts of almost 35,000 current academic books, including more than 5,000 titles in business and economics, and approximately 3,000 titles in computer and information science.  Additional information about e.brary will be provided in late August.

I strongly encourage students and faculty to use these new academic resources.

 Sincerly,

John L. Bennett,  Director of Library
